Promoting independence means creating opportunities for people to do more of what matters to them. Explore how to build on strengths, offer meaningful choices and adjust assistance, helping staff support everyday participation without taking over or setting goals for the person.

Consider how time, communication and familiar routines influence the opportunities people are given. Practical reflection focuses on noticing abilities, agreeing manageable steps and reviewing support with the individual, so progress reflects their priorities and recognises both achievement and changing needs.
