CARE PROVIDERS, FOR CARE PROVIDERS
Our directors continue to lead residential care, domiciliary care and supported living services. We understand the practical questions behind a training request: who is on shift, who works alone, what support people need and how training fits around the rota.
This tool helps you bring those questions together before choosing courses. PRISM provides training across the UK; this calculator’s guidance is specifically for adult services in England.
There is no single number that fits every service. Your assessment should consider hazards, staff numbers and working patterns, absence cover, lone working, emergency service access and the people receiving care. The calculator provides an indicative starting point for a manager to review against the service’s full first aid needs assessment.

Use your assessment and the course content to choose suitable learning; care-specific risks may also require additional training and practical competency checks.
Yes. You can use the calculator without a course purchase and save or print the resulting report. Read the calculator privacy notice before saving your organisation’s assessment. Do not enter information identifying people receiving care.
The tool uses HSE guidance, CQC requirements and care training standards as planning references. It supports your review and does not certify compliance or replace a complete first aid needs assessment. See HSE’s first aid needs assessment guidance for the factors employers should consider.
